CO2 USES AND APPLICATIONS

CO2 as commercial product has multiple applications and is highly demanded by different sectors of activity. We can find CO2 in many products consumed on a daily basis. Furthermore, it is the center of several research projects that investigate in new sustainable uses for this gas, since it can be an  alternative more respectful than other chemical products currently used.

In the document attached it is possible to find further information about the variety of uses for the CO2.

LIFE CO2IntBio PROJECT RESULTS

The main objective of the LIFE CO2IntBio project is to contribute to the climate change mitigation through a model of industrial integration based in carbon capture and use technologies.

The technology used in the LIFE CO2IntBio pilot project allows to avoid the emissions of 420 kg of CO2 equivalent for a ton of CO2 produced.

The next inphographic shows other interesting results of the project.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Circular economy is a regenerative economic model in which raw materials return to the natural cycle or the productive cycle.

The CO2 emissions generated in the transformation of products can also return to the natural cycle (biomass retention) or the productive cycle (chemical or construction product, etc.).

In the LIFE CO2IntBio project, the gases from a power plant that produces heat and electricity from biomass (renewable source), are captured, purified and reused as raw material that return to the productive cycle.

ECOLOGICAL LABELING OF CO2-DERIVED PRODUCTS: ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCT DECLARATION (EPD)

The LIFE CO2IntBio project will obtain CO2 from the capture and purification of the combustion gases of a biomass plant that generates energy with the following characteristics:

  • Its origin is renewable (biomass combustion).
  • It is considered neutral in emissions.
  • The sophisticated treatment it receives, and the analysis of the product make it suitable for use in the agri-food industry.
  • The proximity of the supply reduces road transportation emissions.
  • It has an Environmental Product Declaration

COMMERCIAL USES OF CO2

"Green CO2" produced in the LIFE CO2IntBio project is obtained by the purification of the CO2 present in the combustion gases of a biomass power plant (renewable energy).

CO2 as a commercial product has multiple applications and is highly demanded by different sectors of activity:

CLIMATE CHANGE MITIGATION. CAPTURE, PURIFICATION AND USE OF CO2.

Increase of CO2 concentration in the atmosphere causes serious climate changes.

More awareness and sustainability in production and consumption is needed.

Carbon Capture and Use Technologies (CCU), can contribute to climate change mitigation (reduction of greenhouse gases emissions). They separate CO2 from industrial combustion gases to purify it, condition it and use it later as a resource or raw material.

ECODESIGNED WEBSITE

This website has been ecodesign to reduce carbon emissions generated by the visits of the web users.

Each visit to a website can emit between 1 and 3 grames of COequivalent, depending on how it has been designed.

The design of this web, has followed the recommendations of the Guide created by https://www.greenit.fr/ and it has been verified by the toolkits:  http://www.ecoindex.fr/ and http://www.ecometer.org/

Carbon capture and use

Carbon capture is a process by which it is possible to isolate the CO2 present in the gases that are emitted in the processes of industrial combustion or electricity generation. This would be the first process of the techniques known as Carbon Capture, Storage and Use (CCUS).

After its capture, it is possible to use carbon dioxide in the same place where it has been captured or transport it to the place of use, which constitutes Carbon Capture and Use techniques (CCU).
